JanuaI have been woefully absent from these pages my friends. I didn’t mean to disappear for so long, but like many of you, I have been in that post-holiday, dead of winter, cold weather, long nights, tea drinking, book reading, hibernation kind of mood. I’ve been turning inward and trying to slow down, quiet down. I am trying to read more and look at screens less. I have been cooking more and drinking less. I have been writing more and talking less. I’ve been brainstorming and planting seeds for new ventures in a loose and lovely way–meandering in my own mind. I’ve been dreaming. And, as a daily practice, I am scheduling less and allowing myself to have time to just be. To get bored even! To see what happens in this brain of mine when it isn’t constantly distracted by stimulus and appointments and plans. This quiet time so many of us seem to relish after the holidays–whether enforced by resolutions or not–is gone before we know it. The pace will just naturally pick up. So, enjoy it while it lasts. Let yourself get a little uncomfortable, even. Unplug and dig in to your own glorious self.

In case you’re interested in what I’ve been eating & reading while hunkered down….

I’ve been cooking constantly from this, drinking lots of this and have found a new favorite cure-all soup in this. I’m reading this smart book and this beautiful blog, this classic because it’s been on my list for over a decade, this for its wry wit, and this for its visceral beauty.

Lastly, one of my favorite things about writing this blog has been to hear from you all about what posts interest you the most. So I’m putting the call out to you dear readers. What do you want to hear about in the coming weeks and months? Any burning health questions? Dietary quandaries? Wondering what to do with a certain ingredient? Or how to get started on a new style of cooking? I always love to hear from you so please send your questions and comments my way.

I hope your year is off to a healthy and happy start. More to come soon!
